Apatang Declares State of Significant Emergency for CNMI as Typhoon Sinlaku Threatens Category 3 or 4 Landfall

SAIPAN — Governor David M. Apatang signed Executive Order No. 2026-004 Saturday, declaring a State of Significant Emergency for the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands and activating the State Emergency Operations Plan as Typhoon Sinlaku approaches on a forecast track toward all populated CNMI islands.

SAIPAN — Tropical Storm Sinlaku was upgraded to a typhoon Saturday afternoon as the system intensified to 85 mph sustained winds and shifted its movement toward the north-northeast, the CNMI Emergency Operations Center reported in Bulletin 2 at 2 p.m.

HAGÅTÑA — Governor Lourdes A. Leon Guerrero placed Guam in Condition of Readiness 3 at 5 p.m. Friday as Tropical Storm Sinlaku intensifies toward the Marianas, warning that the system has the potential to reach Category 3 or 4 strength with winds around 120 mph at its center as it makes a very close approach to Guam Monday night into Tuesday.
