JKPL names 2025 CNMI book selections for Library of Congress National Book Festival

SAIPAN — The Northern Mariana Islands Center for the Book at Joeten-Kiyu Public Library (JKPL) announced its 2025 official selections for the Library of Congress National Book Festival’s “Roadmap to Reading,” highlighting local literary heritage for youth and adults. Thousands attended the Sept. 6, 2025 festival at the Walter E. Washington Convention Center in Washington, D.C., which marked the event’s 25th year with the theme “Uniting Book Lovers for 25 Years.”

SAIPAN — The NMI Settlement Fund and the Department of Finance said some retiree benefit payments scheduled for October 15 were delayed due to the timing of a 25% transfer from the CNMI Treasury and an intervening U.S. federal bank holiday.

SAIPAN — Governor David M. Apatang on Oct. 14 submitted a revised Fiscal Year 2026 budget to the 24th Commonwealth Legislature that lowers projected revenues, institutes austerity, and presents two spending plans that hinge on a proposed $29 million pension loan for the NMI Settlement Fund.
